The rooms are large and very comfortable. The check in staff is friendly and warm. Housekeeping was inconsistent at best - they did the bare, bare minimum. It was obvious the toilet was not being cleaned, and possibly hadn't been cleaned well since prior to my stay. Housekeeping staff would regularly forget to empty garbage, replenish towels, and even forgot to service the room at all, on two occasions. This is despite gentle feedback being given to the reception staff. As a solo traveller, I was shocked to find that there was no dinner available in the town at all, on Christmas Day. The town in general was quite unfriendly and unwelcoming, and spending 2 weeks there was an expensive (and unfortunately non-refundable/non-changable) mistake on my part. The diving was underwhelming, and I'm not sure why it is on the list of the world's top 10 dive sites, let alone the top 50. The diving is insanely expensive, with barely any service provided (if you bring your own gear, you wash your own gear) and it is disorganised (on one occasion my gear was strewn around the dive ops gear area) and they even ask you to hang your gear out in the sun (the first rule of equipment care is - do not ever, ever, put it in the sun). Ocean's was pretty much the only option available if you weren't staying at the insanely expensive accommodation being run by Dive Tutukaka, or living in a camper van at the holiday park. I regret visiting Tutukaka and wasting my money there and wouldn't ever go back.
